Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Gambito is developed and published by Dynadel ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with your use of the Gambito application (the "App") on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Gambito is designed to work without an account. The following data is processed exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Chess game history and PGN files
• Engine analysis results, evaluations, and continuations
• Puzzle attempts, results, and spaced-repetition progress
• Opening repertoire and study data
• Rating estimates and performance statistics
• App settings and preferences

All of this data lives in a local database on your device and remains entirely under your control.

3. Information We May Collect

We may collect limited, non-personal technical information to improve the App, subject to your device's privacy settings and platform policies:

• Crash reports: anonymised diagnostic data (device model, OS version, stack trace) sent automatically when the App crashes, if you have not disabled this in your device settings. We use this solely to fix bugs and cannot identify you from it.
• Aggregate usage analytics: anonymised, aggregated signals such as feature-use frequency and session length, where permitted by the platform (e.g. Apple App Store, Google Play). No individual user is ever identifiable from this data.

We do not use advertising identifiers, cross-app tracking, or any third-party analytics SDK that profiles individual users.

4. Local Storage

The App uses a local SQLite database and standard platform storage APIs (e.g. shared preferences) to persist your data on-device. This data is stored in the App's private sandbox and is not accessible to other apps without your explicit action (such as exporting a PGN file).

We do not use browser cookies, tracking pixels, or similar mechanisms.

5. Third-Party Components

The App incorporates open-source chess engines — Stockfish and Leela Chess Zero (LC0) — which run entirely on-device and make no network connections. These components are governed by their respective open-source licenses included in the App.

On mobile platforms, the App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Downloads and in-app interactions on those platforms are subject to Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.

6. Network Access

The App may request network access for the following limited purposes:

• Fetching games or puzzles from Lichess or Chess.com (only when you explicitly trigger an import)
• Checking for App updates (where applicable on desktop platforms)

No gameplay data, engine output, or personal information is included in these requests. You can revoke network access via your device or OS settings at any time without affecting core chess functionality.

7. Children's Privacy

Gambito is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@gambitochess.com and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. All App data stored on your device can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the App or using your device's app data management features. Any anonymised crash reports we receive are retained only as long as needed to diagnose the underlying issue.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy law — including rights to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of personal data. Because we do not process personal data beyond anonymised diagnostics, most of these rights are satisfied by design.

10. Security

We apply industry-standard practices to protect any data we receive (such as crash reports) from unauthorised access, disclosure, or modification. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use up-to-date OS and device security features to protect your local App data.

11. International Users

Gambito is available globally. If you use the App outside the jurisdiction in which Dynadel operates, please be aware that any data you choose to share with us (e.g. by emailing support) may be processed in that jurisdiction. By using the App you consent to such transfer to the extent permitted by your local law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be communicated through a notice within the App where reasonably practicable.

Your continued use of the App after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
